Xavian XN 270 Evoluzione

"The Xavian XN270s are small, monitor speakers that reproduce a full scale frequency range. They produce all the bass that is necessary for realistic reproduction of drums, acoustic bass, and the low octaves of the piano. I never felt the need for any additional bass output with any of the music that I listened to.

Their midrange reproduction is as good as I have ever heard. Hearing the XN270s reproduce vocal music while driven by the Grant Fidelity A-534B's 300B tubes was not an experience I am going to easily forget. High frequency reproduction is superb. The overtones of bells, wind instruments, and cymbals were reproduced both realistically and with excellent control. Soundstaging is as good as I have heard.

Are there any drawbacks to these speakers? Well, at $7200, they are fairly expensive for most of us. The more I have listened to the XN270s, however, the more they have seduced me with their musical performance into viewing them as fully justifying their cost. Listen to them at your own peril.

A second consideration is that you really need to have components of similar quality if you are going to hear them at their best. I feel that my main system fell into the "adequate but by no means excessive" category for evaluating the Xavian's performance. If you purchase these speakers and then find yourself upgrading the rest of your system, don't blame me. If you have the opportunity to audition these speakers, do it." Positive Feedback

"I began this little discussion by mentioning that megabuck system distributor Daniel Barnum had shocked me by saying that he was carrying an affordable speaker line, but I still haven’t mentioned what the cost of the Xavian Giuliettas is. Well, I haven’t spoken much about the cost of these speakers because without actually, seeing, touching, and hearing them, telling you the price won’t resonate and you may not think them to be affordable at all.

So let me try this: they are beautifully finished and constructed of the finest materials. They use high quality drive units and components. Their sound is equal to systems I’ve heard costing nearly US$10,000 and their price was recently just raised to US$4,400/pair. I don’t know about you, but to me, that sounds like a speaker that can stand up to the highest standards and is affordable. It also sounds like what we at Stereo Times call a “Most Wanted Component." Xavian Mediterranea

"I really enjoyed my time with the Xavians and believe they represent excellent value. Some terrific components are coming out of Europe these days and I think it's a hopeful sign that these talented designers are willing to take their chances in today's challenging market for home audio. It's difficult for a relatively unknown company such as Xavian to gain traction in the U.S. market, but if the rest of their speaker line sounds anything like the relatively expensive Mediterraneas then they are worth seeking out at any and all price points.

These speakers are intelligently designed and beautifully built, and are sure to enhance the bling factor of your sound system. They are not for use with wimpy tube amplifiers as their efficiency is on the low-ish side …besides they really need to be played louder to come alive. Even so, it might be interesting to hear them played with some higher power tube amps. Be prepared to spend a little extra time in setup and talk to the distributor about compatible speaker cables and interconnects. I look forward to hearing more from Xavian Electronics in the future."
